A Century of Flavor Cookbook Review and Giveaway (5 winners!)

A Century of Flavors cookbook giveaway

{CLOSED}
Have I got something special for you! This time of year makes me want to head to the kitchen to dig out my old recipes, and also to try new recipes! I was offered "A Century of Flavor" cookbook from Nielson-Massey Vanillas for review, and I am so thrilled with it. Not only is it gorgeous, but the recipes are absolutely mouth-watering.

About the cookbook and Nielsen-Massey Vanillas:

The delightful aroma of the kitchen during the holidays – with smells of cinnamon, peppermint, chocolate and vanilla – is a scent that many associate with long lived memories. The holiday season is a perfect time to create flavorful memories with your family and loved ones. Nielsen-Massey Vanillas A Century of Flavor cookbook provides moms with a variety of holiday recipes. Vanilla Carmel Corn Crunch can be made with your young chef, while Creamy Vanilla Sweet Potatoes is a perfect side to your family’s main course.

This vanilla-inspired cookbook, published by family-owned Nielsen-Massey Vanillas, celebrates the exciting nuances of one of America’s most-loved and versatile ingredients – pure vanilla. It is filled with 50 of the most tantalizing recipes, highlighting the intricate, yet delicate flavors of pure vanilla and is written for the novice cook as well as the seasoned chef.

This cookbook is a beauty!  It is a hard-cover book with 127 pages, and is filled with heavenly recipes. It includes sections such as: On the Side, Now This is Dinner!, Fresh Baked, It's Always Better with Vanilla and even the history of Nielsen-Massey.  The color photos in the cookbook are absolutely stunningThis recipe was absolutely delicious:

Nielsen-Masseey Vanilla a century of flavors cookbook review

CREAMY VANILLA SWEET POTATOES:

4 medium sweet potatoes
~canola oil
2 ounces cream cheese, softened
½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened
¼ cup real maple syrup
1 tablespoon Nielsen-Massey Tahitian Pure Vanilla Extract
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
5 strips bacon, crisp-cooked and crumbled
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Wash the sweet potatoes and lightly coast the skins with canola oil. Pierce each potato several times with a fork. Place the potatoes on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake for 1 hour or until fork tender.

Cut the hot potatoes into halves. Scoop the potato pulp into a mixing bowl, discarding the skins. Beat at medium speed for 1 minute using an electric mixer. Add the cream cheese, butter, syrup, vanilla extract, salt and pepper. Whip until creamy.
Spoon the whipped potatoes into six ramekins coated with nonstick cooking spray and top with the bacon. Place the ramekins on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheat 375-degree oven for 5 to 8 minutes or until heated through. Alternatively, they may be reheated in a microwave for 2 to 3 minutes.

Serves 6

This would be a perfect dish to go along with your holiday dinners.  If this isn't enough to make you hungry, you might like to try the Crab Cakes with Vanilla Remoulade, the Apricot Mango BBQ Ribs or Marcy's Vanilla Sugar-Crusted Scones.  Mmmmm - I cannot wait to try them all.

The recipes are simple and easy to follow, which I really love.  You can order the A Century of Flavors cookbook online, or you can win one here!

Fall Festival BONUS WEEK - Good Health Natural Products Review and Giveaway

{CLOSED}

Fall Festival BONUS Day at Snafood:

Good Health Review and Giveaway!
Yep - another chance to win this same assortment!

good health review and giveaway

I love to snack - plain and simple.  Unfortunately, I don't like the unhealthy aspects of most snack items that are available.  I try to eat healthy for the most part.  I have run across a company that offers so many snacks and food choices that are healthy!  Good Health Natural Products has the best assortment of healthy foods I have ever seen, and I am already hooked.  I was sent a box full of goodies to sample for this review.

About Good Health from their website:
Based in Greensboro, NC, Good Health® Natural Products, Inc. is a leading innovator in the natural and organic markets producing healthy snacks such as Olive and Avocado Oil Potato Chips, Veggie Stix® and the new HUMBLES™, a baked hummus chip. The snacks are branded and sold under the Good Health® Natural Products name. Good Health® Natural Products(GHNP) also has a line of soaps, lotions and body wash sold under the South of France® brand.

Good Health® Natural Products has developed a reputation for healthy living and creativity that has always resulted in products that are beyond ordinary! The company began with Veggie Stix® pioneering the veggie snack category of consumer foods. Next came the revolutionary Good Health® Natural Products Olive Oil Potato Chips (another first of its kind) providing the consumer a delicious source of mono and polyunsaturated fats. The Olive Oil Potato Chips definitely made a name for itself as it was recognized on the “Oprah” and “Rachel Ray” Shows. Other recent kudos include GHNP’s Half Naked Popcorn listed as the healthiest popcorn snack in the latest edition of the book, “Eat This Not That,” published by the editor of Men’s Health Magazine.

Not only taking pride in being the first in bringing new and exciting products to the market, Good Health® Natural Products delights in providing the consumer with a variety of healthy snack foods that has less fat than their conventional counterparts. The Veggie Stix® along with many other Good Health® Natural Products snacks has 45% less fat than conventional potato chips. The company is constantly traveling and researching all over the world to develop new processing technologies to bring the consumer the most innovative snack that is not just tasty but good for the body as well. The world’s first Avocado Oil Potato chip is a direct result of all that hard work and research.
I had so much fun sampling their products. I loved the "Humbles" which are baked snacks made out of Hummus! These are available in Olive Oil, Lemon & Feta; Roasted Red Pepper; and Sesame Garlic. I also really enjoyed the Veggie Sticks and Veggie chips (0 grams of trans fat and the chips have 30% less overall fat than regular chips).  These contain no artificial colors or flavors, no preservatives, 0 g trans fat, and no hydrogenated oils...what's not to love?  My daughter really enjoyed all of the snacks as well.  How nice that there are options for kids and adults alike to have healthy snacks. For toddlers too, this is a great way to let them have fun foods, without the fat and "bad stuff".  Good Health even has gluten-free products.

I could go on and on telling you about the wonderful products I tried, but I want you do discover what else they have when you enter to win!

Fall Festival BONUS WEEK - L.L. Bean Slippers Review and Giveaway

{CLOSED}

Today's Fall Festival Bonus Week feature on Snafood is:
Carolyn's Kitchen Review and Giveaway
L.L. Bean slippers Review and Giveaway

 Today's featured company:

L.L. Bean review and giveaway

Every fall when catalogs start arriving for the holiday season (I love getting catalogs!), I am always the happiest when I see the L.L. Bean catalog.  I get comfy on the couch and start leafing through the pages, dreaming of all the items I would love to have.  L.L. Bean always has a wonderful collection of clothing, bedding, home decor and more - and I start getting excited at the thought of decorating my house, or snuggling up in their warm clothing and pajamas.

L.L.Bean, Inc. has been a trusted source for quality apparel, reliable outdoor equipment and expert advice for more than 95 years.

Founded in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean, the company has grown from a one-man operation to a global organization with annual sales of $1.5 billion. Our company headquarters are in Freeport, Maine, just down the road from our original store.

PhotobucketI was so happy to learn that I would be reviewing the L.L. Bean Primrose Slippers!  I couldn't wait for these to arrive, as I have been wanting a new pair of slippers for a long time.  I chose the Primrose Slipper in Blue Aster.  As I slipped these on my feet, I knew immediately that I would not want to take them off.  Not only are they very attractive, but they are so soft and comfortable. They also have a non-skid surface on the bottom.  I know that I will have a hard time taking them off and putting on regular shoes! I want to wear them forever.  The Primrose Slippers are available in several colors: Foliage, Bright Navy, Cream and Sea Rose.  It was really hard to choose a color - all of them are lovely.

A little more about L.L. Bean's Primrose Slippers, from their website:
  • Wrap your feet in soft, lightweight fleece
  • Elastic collar for a secure fit
  • Lightly cushioned footbed and fabric-wrapped sole

Stow these feminine slippers by the door or toss into your overnight bag for any time you need "inside shoes". Made of soft, stretchy polyester microfleece with an elastic collar. Lightly padded footbed. Fabric-wrapped outsole.
L.L. Bean giveaway

As I mentioned above, L.L. Bean has so much more  than clothing.  While I was browsing around on their website, I found some gorgeous flannel sheets that I would love for my room.  Oh - and this is pretty neat - you can mix and match the bedding.  You can choose from stripes, plaids, solids, etc., and pick them in the colors you want.  I love this idea!

Definitely keep L.L. Bean in mind for birthday and holiday gifts, they really do have something for everyone on your list!

Experience L.L. Bean for yourself - the nice people there have so kindly offered one of my readers their very own pair of Primrose Slippers!  Winner gets to choose color (subject to availability)  and size (if you are a half size, order down).

THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!:

Today on The Speedy Gourmet:
Make ahead meals for busy moms cookbook giveaway

I love getting new cookbooks - there is something about a brand new book that makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over.  In the fall, I am always inspired to try new things, but I run out of ideas easily it seems.

I received the "Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms" cookbook by Jane Doiron for review and I absolutely love it.  There are so many meals that are not only very appealing, but simple.  I love the fact that I can make them ahead of time too - super convenient for me!

I have made two recipes from this book already, and I plan on trying another one this week.  I made the Chicken Marsala with a Twist (yum!), and the Panko Pork Medallions (also yummy!).

Jane Doiron is a busy mom of two boys who discovered the beauty of preparing meals in advance.  Make-Ahead Meals for  Busy Moms represents years of experience in recipe experimentation and acquired tips.  I like her way of thinking!

From the Make Ahead Meals website:
Your busy mom lifestyle dictates quick get-on-the table meals, but how do you prepare and cook a delicious meal at the end of your busy day when you are simply out of time and energy?

It’s simple! Here's how: Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms Cookbook. This is Jane Doiron’s cookbook of savory, family-favorite recipes that were individually home-tested and selected. Make Ahead Meals are:

• Simple to prepare.

• Simple to assemble ahead of schedule.

• Simple to freeze ahead.

• Simple for the whole family to enjoy.
Jane's goal was to seek out main dish, family-favorite recipes that could be make ahead meals without sacrificing the food’s taste and texture by freezing.  After years of home-testing recipes, Jane has compiled this must-have cookbook with specific make-ahead directions.  In addition, Jane includes her best recipes for clever side dishes, flavorful appetizers and luscious desserts. Imagine opening your freezer to pick out a family-favorite appetizer, main dish, or dessert, and all you have to do is thaw and heat it!

Make-ahead meals are a healthy and economical alternative to take-out and preservative filled, pre-packaged foods.  With make ahead meal planning, you are making fewer trips to the grocery store, and saving money otherwise spent on unhealthy, take-out and fast foods.  It’s simple. Fall Festival - Pepperidge Farms Crackers Review and Giveaway

fall festival

Today's Fall Feature at Snafood:
Pepperidge Farm Review and Giveaway!

Today's featured company on The Speedy Gourmet:

Pepperidge Farm giveaway

I have enjoyed Pepperidge Farm products since I was a little kid.  Who doesn't enjoy goldfish...seriously?  They have come a long way since then, and they recently added some wonderful products to their line.

Pepperidge Farm Cheese Crisps Review and giveaway
Lucky me - I got to sample these items for this review!  I sampled the Baked Naturals Cheese Crisps in both flavors: Four Cheese and Four Cheese Italian Herb.  I have found my new snack crackers!  The flavors are rich, yet not overwhelming.  They are baked!  I love that fact.  I found myself dipping these in everything, and putting all sorts of toppings on them (though they are so delicious on their own!).  I also sampled the Garden Flavor "flavor blasted" goldfish - oh yum!  (My daughter and I were kind of playing a tug-o-war game with them...neither of us wanted to let go!).

From the Pepperidge Farms website:
For us, baking is more than a job—it's a real passion. Each day, our bakers take the time to make every cookie, pastry, cracker and loaf of bread the best way they know how... by using simple, good ingredients like real fruit filling baked into Verona® cookies, 100% whole grains baked into our Whole Grain breads, and real cheddar cheese baked into our Goldfish® crackers. It's the little things that make simple food taste special. We believe in doing things right, and we just happen to love it. Baking requires knowledge of the craft, a spirit of exploration and inspired ideas. At Pepperidge Farm, we have been honing and perfecting our chosen craft for generations, and our bakers care deeply about what it means. There's something about freshly baked bread or cookies that simply makes people smile. That's important to us.

Pepperidge Farm Baked Naturals are preservative-free, natural snacks, made with an artisan blend of real cheeses golden baked to bubbly perfection on top of a thin, crispy, crunchy cracker. Four Cheese is made with Aged Cheddar, Parmesan, Romano and Asiago, while Italian Herb is seasoned with flavorful herbs and spices.

Pepperidge Farm GiveawayOf course there are so, so many other goodies that Pepperidge Farm makes - from cookies to desserts to fresh breads and rolls (and everything in between).  I can honestly say I have never met a Pepperidge Farm product that I did not like. Milano Cookies are another one of my favorites (but I'll stop here - this is a post about Baked Naturals!)

Fall Festival: Izze Sparkling Juice Review

fallfestival

Let me introduce you to Izze Sparkling Juice!
Izze Review

I am always in search of a drink that is carbonated but not necessarily a soda.  I prefer  refreshing beverages (not sodas), especially on those hot summer days.  I have discovered something I am enjoying so much - Izze Sparking Juice!  I have heard of Izze before, but have never had the pleasure of trying it until recently, when they were sent to me for review.

A little about Izze's history from their website:
In February of 2002, Todd Woloson and Greg Stroh, two friends who love good food and drink, were having lunch in Boulder, Colorado. They spoke of life and work, and how great it would be to start a company together that not only made an excellent product, but also contributed to a higher purpose.

Izze Sparkling Juice Review
They thought about the European sodas they’d recently tried, and saw an opportunity to create an all-natural version of those sophisticated beverages; beverages made with the highest quality ingredients, simple, pure beverage they‘d be proud to produce, feel good about serving to their friends and family, and that they themselves would love to drink.
If in doing this, they could also raise awareness for The Global Education Fund - a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities for underrepresented individuals throughout the world - it would be a slam-dunk. They decided to give it a go.
The next few months were spent mixing bottled sparkling water with various fruit juices, trying out different concoctions on anyone and everyone who was willing. After lots of trial and equal amounts of error, they finally found the perfect blend of nourishing fruit and refreshing fizz, and in June that same year, the IZZE Beverage Company was born.
Today, eight distinctive flavors of IZZE, five flavors of IZZE Fortified and three flavors of low-calorie IZZE esque are sold in natural and conventional grocery stores, corner delis, fine restaurants, airports, coffee shops and cafes all across the U.S.
Izze ReviewMy daughter and I loved all of the flavors that were sent to us (we received four flavors).  Some of the flavors Izze is available in are: Pomegranate, grapefruit, lime, blackberry and apple. They are carbonated, full of flavor and do the trick if you are thirsty and craving something refreshing.  When my daughter first saw the Izze products that had arrived, she told me how they sell them at her school, instead of sodas, and unhealthy drinks.  I love this idea!  It is nice that the kids have something good and fun to drink in place of sodas.

According to the Izze website, Izze Sparkling Juices are made from 70% real fruit juice, a splash of sparkling water and they contain NO caffeine, preservatives, artificial colors or flavors - I love that!  If you are looking for a natural sparkling juice for your family - I definitely would recommend Izze!

I have six coupons (free 4 pack of Izze) to share with my readers. Please comment below if you would like one, then send your mailing address to me via email.  If you see that all six coupons have been claimed, please do not post any more comments - thanks!

You can find Izze products on this list

What a clever idea this company had - take America's favorite pastime and make cookies to go with it!  For the guys in your life, this is a gift that they will surely love, and certainly you will enjoy the goodies inside these handsome tins too!

I received a tin of Cooperstown Cookie Company cookies in a tin with the A's emblem on it.  My hubby loves the A's (and cookies) and I knew he would get a kick  out of having two of his favorite things all in one.  I also received a small box with chocolate chip shortbread cookies, also with the A's emblem on the outside of the box.

A little about the company from their website:

Cooperstown Cookie Company ReviewThe Cooperstown Cookie Company™ celebrates the love of baseball and the love of cookies with delightful and delicious baseball-themed gifts.

From the start, the Cooperstown Cookie Company™ has dedicated itself to doing well and doing good.  Our products are made in cooperation with Pathfinder Village, a residential community dedicated to adults and children with Down syndrome.  The Cooperstown Cookie Company™ is committed to building awareness of and support for Pathfinder Village.
Cooperstown Cookies were featured on The Food Network's "Unwrapped"!

My mom used to make Shortening Bread cookies all the time while I was growing up, so I have to admit I have quite a soft spot for them.  Cooperstown Cookie Company's cookies were all that I hoped for and more.  The cookies came two to a package, and several packages in the tin.  The flavor of these cookies is so yummy and rich.  I did end up sharing with hubby - and he loved them too - and he REALLY loved the tin. I think he will be saving it and using it for pieces and parts in the garage (I don't know - whatever it is that guys do with "cool storage containers").

Cooperstown Cookies are available online, and also at these fine stores.

I have good news for you!  You have a chance to win these heavenly cookies too!

Fall Festival - Today's Featured Company:
The Brown Bow Gift Company!
Brown Bow Gift Co. giveaway

I love discovering new places to buy gifts for friends and family, and fun things for myself as well.  I was recently introduced to The Brown Bow Gift Co., and I am in love.  I found myself "oohing" and "ahhing" over so many of their tasteful and decorative items.

Brown Bow Gift Co. Halo Candle ReviewI received to review, a Halo Candle.  I am very impressed with everything about it.  It came beautifully packaged, and the candle itself is gorgeous. The glass container that the candle in is stylish and and the colors match my decor perfectly.  The scent I received is Japanese Cedarwood, which contains Sandalwood and cedarwood, and refreshing aromas of citrus, lavender, chamomile and sage.  It is a light and elegant scent - I love it!  Not only does my house smell amazing but it is so attractive too.  The other scents that the Halo Candles are available in are Snow Dragon Tea and Crisp Linen.

From the Brown Bow Gift Co. website:
The Halo Collection embodies Root's philosophy of candle goodness: simple, clean burning and exceedingly beautiful. Exquisite mouthblown art glass (which makes a wonderful drinking glass when the candle is gone) that we filled with color-free, soy wax blend and the finest fragrances available. Each candle is individually gift boxed.   Available in three different colors.

Brown Bow Gift Co. Review and GiveawayThe Brown Bow Gift Co. has so many other wonderful items...their website is certainly not limited to only candles.  They offer gifts for Graduation, Thank You, Anniversaries, and every other occasion you can think of. They also have gifts for kids, babies, they have totes, jewelry, and the list goes on.  The Brown Bow Gift Co. even has personalized gift items!

I love, love, love my candle!  After looking over Erin's review and giveaway of Brown Bow Gift Co., I know that I just have to have the gorgeous autumn table decor that she received for her review.  I really could go crazy ordering from Brown Bow Gift Co., but I will have to control myself.  You, however, have a chance to win from them!

MMMM - To me, Fall means cozy homes, fires burning in the fireplace and of course home cooked comfort food.  Some days I just don't feel like cooking late in the afternoon - especially on those busy days.  As often as I can, I make meals in my slow cooker. The problem is, I run out of recipes and am back to cooking at the stove or in the oven...UGH.  I was so happy when I found out I would be reviewing the "Super Fast Slow Cooking" cookbook from Gooseberry Patch.  This cookbook is amazing and has so many wonderful, easy-to-make recipes.

I have one cookbook from Gooseberry Patch that I purchased several years ago, and I have always loved it.  What I love most about their cookbooks is that they are not your run of the mill.  These cookbooks are actually fun to read. The pictures and illustrations actually make me want to cook!

Gooseberry Patch has a huge selection of cookbooks, but they also have so much more.  They have a wonderful selection of adorable items that would be great for gift giving (remember the holidays will be here before we know it!), and also products that would be wonderful to have for your own kitchen.  Gooseberry Patch has aprons, bowls, pans, baking kits and mixes, canisters.  The list goes on and on.  If you cannot decide what to get as a gift, you can always get a gift certificate!
How Gooseberry Patch started (from their website):
gooseberry patch reviewGooseberry Patch started in 1984 one day over the backyard fence in Delaware, Ohio. We were next-door neighbors who shared a love of collecting antiques, gardening and country decorating. Though neither of us had any experience (Jo Ann was a first-grade school teacher and Vickie, a flight attendant & legal secretary), we decided to try our hands at the mail-order business. Since we both had young children, this was perfect for us. We could work from our kitchen tables and keep an eye on the kids too! As our children grew, so did our "little" business. We moved into our own building in the country and filled the shelves to the brim with kitchenware, gourmet goodies, enamelware, bowls and our very own line of cookbooks, calendars and organizers!

The Gooseberry Family is definitely a family that would be fun to join!  Not only do Vickie and Jo Ann have wonderful items, they are incredibly nice.  So nice in fact, that they have so kindly offered to let me do a giveaway so that you too can be the proud owner of the very same cookbook I reviewed above!  Thank you ladies!

muichic giveawayI recently discovered a place that has the most unique jewelry - Muichic!  Muichic offers jewelry pieces that are natural, sustainable and organic and are hand-made in Columbia.  All of their pieces are made using Tagua Nut.  The Tagua nut is the botanical alternative to ivory.  It is a seed that comes from the ivory nut palm which grows in the humid tropical forest of South America. It's use stimulates the local economies in the region providing an alternative to cutting down rainforests for farming.

All of the pieces from Muichic are bold, playful and colorful, and no two pieces are exactly alike!  Each Tagua nut has it's own distinctive grain and shape which gives an uncommon quality to each piece of jewelry (especially the rings).  How cool is that?  I love the idea of having a piece that nobody else has.   I absolutely love the color selection - look at these rings!
